There’s a famous quote that goes:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I’ve often used that quote to help explain the inspiration of my own dream of buying a boat and sailing around the world. Recently, I discovered that the quote widely attributed to Mark Twain may in fact have originated in the book “P.S. I Love You” by bestselling author H. Jackson Brown Jr. [source: QuoteInvestigator].
For me, here’s what makes this even more inspirational (not that I have anything against Mark Twain):
- Each remark/quote on every page was prefaced with “P.S.” and ended with “I love you, Mom”. And any book that ends every page with “I love you, Mom” is a must read in my mind, since all Mom’s are precious. Besides, who doesn’t love their Mom?
- I also came across another quote in the book that I thought sealed the deal:
“Marry the right person. This one decision will determine 90% of your happiness or misery.”
